48th IPSD Scout Dog Roster
 

If information about the men who served with the 48th is sparse, information about their dogs is even more difficult to track down. The following roster of Scout Dogs and the notations about them was assembled from information supplied from canine military medical records from the Vietnam War era (thanks to Dr. Howard Hayes) and recollections from their various handlers. These dogs were credited with saving countless lives in the performance of their various duties. Their importance to the unit's mission and to the men who lived and worked alongside them can never be overstated.


NOTE: A dog's name appears on this roster because it was reported to have served with the 48th at one time or another during its time in Vietnam. It was not uncommon for a dog to have been assigned to more than one unit or to have many handlers because almost all of the dogs, unlike the men, stayed in Vietnam for the duration of the war.
